Chiaroscuro - What does it mean?

Chiaroscuro is an Italian term used to describe the contrast between light and dark, with chiaro translating to light and scuro translating to dark. In the fine art world it is a commonly used to describe the use of contrasting light to create the illusion of three dimensional objects. Some artists that used chiaroscuro include Vermeer, Carravagio and Botticelli.

Everyday, I come across different types of designs, some of them well done with a certain clarity (chiaro) and others poorly executed and obscure (scuro). This blog is a place to showcase and discuss both the chiaro and the scuro.
